European Union (EFSA)

Safety Profile
Was considered one of the safest sugar alcohols until the 2023 cardiovascular study. FDA and EFSA have not changed regulatory status but the study has raised concerns.
Health Concerns
- • 2023 Cleveland Clinic study linked high blood levels to increased cardiovascular risk
- • May promote blood clotting at high concentrations
- • Less GI distress than other sugar alcohols
