Safety Profile

One of the safest and most widely accepted food additives. Both US and EU approve without concern. The only issue is a choking risk for infants in thickened formula.

  • Generally well-tolerated
  • May cause bloating or gas at high doses
  • Choking hazard for infants when used in thickened liquids (FDA warning 2011)
