irbesartan

Brand names: Irbesartan

# Irbesartan Overview Irbesartan is a medication used to treat high blood pressure and to protect the kidneys in people with diabetes who have high blood pressure. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily, which helps lower your blood pressure. This medicine helps prevent serious problems like heart attacks and strokes caused by high blood pressure. Your doctor will determine the right dose for you based on your individual health needs. When taking irbesartan, it's important to know about some safety concerns. Don't take this medicine if you're pregnant, as it can harm your baby. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially pain relievers like ibuprofen, medicines containing lithium, or other blood pressure medications—these combinations can cause serious side effects. Your doctor may need to check your kidney function and potassium levels with blood tests while you're on this medication. Like all medicines, irbesartan can cause side effects, so report any unusual symptoms to your doctor right away.
