rosuvastatin
Brand names: Rosuvastatin Calcium
# Overview of Rosuvastatin Rosuvastatin is a medication used to help lower cholesterol levels in your body. High cholesterol can build up in your arteries and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. This medicine works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your liver makes. Your doctor may prescribe rosuvastatin if diet and exercise alone aren't enough to bring your cholesterol to a healthy level. It's usually taken as a pill by mouth once a day. When taking rosuvastatin, it's important to know about some safety rules. If you take antacids (medicines that reduce stomach acid), you should take rosuvastatin at least two hours before taking the antacid. If you take a blood thinner called warfarin, your doctor needs to check your blood clotting levels before you start rosuvastatin and monitor them regularly. Also, rosuvastatin can interact with other medicines, so always tell your doctor about all the medications you're taking. Like all medicines, rosuvastatin can cause side effects, so discuss any concerns with your doctor to make sure it's the right choice for you.
